Yu Jingfan (b. 2001) is a young artist living and working in Guangzhou and currently pursuing a Master’s degree in the Oil Painting Department at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. She primarily works with acrylic airbrush techniques combined with oil painting media, developing a visual language that moves fluidly between painting and image-based experience
Yu Jingfan’s practice focuses on the relationship between images, memory, and emotion. In an era when images are endlessly reproduced and rapidly circulated, she often begins with photographic imagery as a point of departure. Through the atomising results of the airbrush and the layering of multiple colours, the image gradually loses its original narrative clarity and transforms into a blurred, floating visual state. Figures, scenes, and light drift across the canvas, creating a viewing experience that exists somewhere between reality and memory
In her paintings, “blur” is not merely a visual strategy but also a metaphor for memory and perception. By dissolving and reconfiguring the boundaries of images, Yu Jingfan constructs a visual space charged with emotional tension, inviting viewers to project their own experiences into the act of looking. Her work attempts to build a connection between private memory and shared visual experience, allowing images to once again become an entry point for emotion and perception
